Hello world, ive finaly done one of the things i said i probaly wouldent do and started my own online blog. Big thanks to steve for sorting the site. I still aint doing face book or myspace yet though. I been into reptiles and other wildlife since i was very young and my first experience of a wild reptiles was a grass snake and slow worms in the back of my nans garden. As i grow up i had all manor bugs in my back garden and even had a small bug zoo in my class at school.

I currently keep royal pythons, common and guyana red tailed boas, kenyan sand boas and amazon tree boas. Over the years ive kept and bred many spieces of gecko and other lizards as well as a lot of other snakes and amphibians. I will ad more on these in the future.

My main reason for this blog is to record a lot of my experience with wildlife in the uk and sometimes a bit from abroad.

Its now sadly approaching the end of the reptile spotting season here in the uk, so wasent the greatest time to start a blog on ukwildlife really.

Due to work comitments ive not spent as much time in the feild as ive done in the past but i have had some good sightings still. This year ive once again seen albino slow worms, black common lizards and found the wildlife in a few areas i used to visit to be growing witch goes against the local trends of greatly reduced numbers.

This year was also the first time id visited the rspb’s raingam marshes centre. This was once one of the places i just went to get some piece but haddent been there for a few years befor rspba taking over.

They have certenly put a lot of time, effor and money into this project but i do have some concerns and moans about it. The entrance is only via the main building that closes at 5pm, while this may not sound like a bad thing it is anoying being persued to join up for the umptenth time. The building is also one of the uglyest ive seen but does have a lot of good features and facitiys. The one major plus point is the walk way through the marshes, its nice to walk around this area without sinking in the mud and water. It also gives good areas to observe the varius pool frogs and grass snakes swimming around and often common lizards can be seen on the wood work. Theres also a big colony of water voles on the site. To think this was almost euro disney once upon a time.

Roll on next year, i aim to be at this site early in season to catch the frogs coming out of hibernation and breeding.

Chafford gauges nature reserve in chafford hundred has been very good for most of the year and many days ive been able to watch grass snakes swimming around and lay next to fences with young common lizards basking very close to me. One sudden move though and there soon in hiding so watch where you lay down, ants climbing up your legs is not fun.

I will post more about my high lights of 07 and pics in the coming days and a bit about my own reptiles.

Hello world!
